I have just added these handy-dandy "Funny, Interesting, Cool" buttons at the bottom of each blog. I am not sure why I've added them. For one thing, having just added them, and not yet having any "funny, interesting, or cool" boxes checked, it really appears as if no single person has ever read my blog. I mean, how difficult would it be for a reader to check a box?
Also, I'm not entirely sure that "cool" is something to strive for with the written word. When I think of cool, I immediately think of "holding something back." I mean, is that a good thing? Aloof? "Gee, I love your writing. It's so . . . aloof."
Interesting, that I can understand. As Elaine Benes said on Seinfeld, when she was working at Pendant Publishing, "People LOVE interesting writing." It's a creed I have tried to follow in my own writing career. And obviously, I'm okay if people think my writing is funny. Funny strange, even.
So go ahead. Check my boxes. Even the cool one. It'll be the first time in my life anyone has thought I was cool.
